Safe and Sacred

Safe and Sacred is the new child safety training program for adults in the Diocese of Burlington, replacing VIRTUS andShield the Vulnerable.  As completely online program, Safe and Sacred is designed to make training accessible and convenient for both the program user and the administrators.  The training program is now available for use by parishes, schools, and other Catholic organizations

If You Are A Current Employee or Volunteer:

Employees and volunteers in the diocese who are currently utilizing VIRTUS and Shield the Vulnerable will be required to take the training in Safe and Sacred by February 1, 2016.  If you would prefer to discontinue your use of VIRTUS by taking the Safe and Sacred training sooner, you may do so at any time after September 1, 2015.  Once you have switched over to Safe and Sacred, you no longer have to complete the VIRTUS monthly bulletins.

If You Are A New Employee or Volunteer:

New employees or volunteers in the 2015-2016 academic and catechetical year should take Safe and Sacredas their child safety training program.

Each program user will have their own unique training experience based on how much they work with children in their diocesan role: Some people will receive new training every year and others will take new training every five years.  Safe and Sacred will assign you a particular course track based on your role when you register on their website.  Below is visual describing how the Safe and Sacred process works:
